Following the success of the first programme delivered earlier this year, The Game Changer for Tourism Businesses, developed and offered in partnership by ONE and Scottish Enterprise, will run again this autumn.
Leading names from the hospitality sector have united to introduce a new apprenticeship scheme, Hospitality Apprenticeship North East, giving 16 to 25 year olds in the north east of Scotland excellent opportunities for a career in hospitality.
The first Tourism Business Game Changer programme, developed in partnership by private sector economic development body Opportunity North East (ONE) and Scottish Enterprise, has been hailed a success with all 12 participating companies developing ambitious plans for growth.
A new programme has been designed to help tourism businesses in North East Scotland realise their growth potential.
Developed by private sector economic development body Opportunity North East (ONE) and Scottish Enterprise, the Tourism Business Game Changer programme aims to support executives, managers and owners of tourism businesses in the region to grow their business by capitalising on ongoing investment in major infrastructure and evolving consumer trends.
Funding for private sector economic development body Opportunity North East (ONE) is being more than doubled and extended to 10 years to support action and investment in pursuing ONE’s renaissance strategy for Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, one of the most productive regional economies in the UK.
The move will enable ONE to increase the scope of its action and extend its planning horizon to 10 years, delivering ambitious development projects within the region’s key sectors to maximise growth opportunities.
The Aberdeen city region has been selected by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) as one of six pilot areas within the UK, and only one in Scotland, to share £10 million of funding towards gigabit fibre broadband to business premises.
The UK Government recognises the importance of world-class digital connectivity to business competitiveness and has created a £200 million programme to kick start the delivery of full fibre broadband across the UK. Digital connectivity is one of six key project areas that make up the Aberdeen City Region Deal (CRD). This funding awarded to the Aberdeen city region by UK Government is in recognition of the region’s work to advance full fibre connections locally and increase delivery of ultrafast fibre.
Private sector economic development body Opportunity North East (ONE) aims to accelerate the development of the digital economy in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire with the establishment of ONE Digital with £4 million of additional funding over four years.
ONE Digital becomes the fifth sector board within ONE and will focus on building digital capability and capacity in the region, including supporting digital product company creation and growth and working across the region’s key industries to enhance competitiveness through the identification and application of digital solutions.
