Scottish supply chain companies are being asked to propose solutions for the decommissioning of offshore pipeline bundles as part of a programme jointly developed by private sector economic development company Opportunity North East (ONE) and Scottish Enterprise (SE).
ONE and SE are partnering to jointly support Scottish oil and gas supply chain SMEs to access new decommissioning business and are working with oil and gas operators on a series of project-specific opportunities. The programme enables SMEs to present their capabilities, skills and experience to operators in relation to real industry challenges and potentially benefit from business support to enhance their capabilities in relation to future decommissioning work.
The second decommissioning opportunity in the programme is on pipeline bundle decommissioning, sponsored by operators including Spirit Energy, and SMEs are invited to register their interest by 17:00 BST, Wednesday 22 August 2018.
Trevor Garlick OBE, chair of ONE’s Oil, Gas & Energy sector board said: “Anchoring high-value oil and gas supply chain businesses long-term is a regional and national priority with offshore decommissioning work offering significant growth potential for SMEs.
“We’ve had good engagement from the operator community in identifying key decommissioning opportunities where SMEs can potentially add value. The programme aims to give successful applicants access to and feedback from the end-user operators, improved understanding of operator needs, improved business cases and business development support. Operator sponsors will gain access to targeted solutions focused on their operational challenges and may potentially pursue further dialogue with selected applicants. Our long-term goal is to ensure that the supply chain in the region is active in the important offshore decommissioning market and able to export its skills to other basins,” said Mr Garlick.
Andy McDonald, director of energy and low carbon technologies at Scottish Enterprise, said: “This is a key opportunity for companies across Scotland to bring innovative ideas and solutions forward to operator sponsors on the real-time industry challenge of offshore pipeline bundle decommissioning. By doing so, companies can gain direct feedback from Operators, with the potential for further support to enhance and develop their own capabilities in winning future decommissioning work.
“With an emerging Scottish decommissioning market valued at between £8.3 billion and £11.3 billion over the next 10 years, this project is a good example of a wider collaborative partnership that leverages resource from the public and private sectors. This will help companies realise their growth ambitions, ultimately driving forward lasting economic impact for the Scottish economy,” said Mr McDonald.
