If you think Silicon Valley is the place to be a tech start up then think again. There’s never been a better time to start and grow a tech business in north east Scotland. Whether you are thinking about creating a tech startup or an established startup ready for global scaleup there is tailored support available, and a thriving community based in ONE Tech Hub.
the Scottish Government programme for creating, developing and scaling tech startups. Techscaler provides a uniform approach to delivering the Scottish Technology Ecosystem Review recommendations to establish Scotland as one of Europe’s leading start-up economies.
Delivered by nationally by CodeBase, Opportunity North East will be regional partner with the Techscaler north east hub in ONE Tech Hub.
Commenting on the launch, Jennifer Craw, Chief Executive, Opportunity North East said:
“Today’s launch is great news for tech founders and the start-up community across Scotland. Here in north east Scotland it builds on our existing strong partnership with CodeBase and the successful pilot tech startup programmes we delivered together to over 50 aspiring founders in 2022 which will now be rolled out nationally as part of Techscaler.
“We hear directly from founders the impact of activity focused on building their business not their technology has at this early stage and its fundamental to creating an environment where startups survive and thrive.”
Reji Jacob an MSc student in data science at RGU is developing Intelligent Frame a tech product that captures a range of health information and delivers health status in real time via an app. Reji was one of the participants on the pilot tech start up fundamentals programme.
“My expertise is in the technical side, creating a product and taking it to market is where I needed help. Tech Startup Fundamentals helped me understand the key concepts. Before this I knew nothing about the Business Model Canvas and how it can help with how you present the product, what’s the revenue potential, who is the key customer – all these pieces are now coming together in tandem with the product development.”
Adrian Brown, is co-founder and managing director of established energy technology firm Fennex who moved in to ONE Tech Hub in summer recognising the need for a space and ecosystem to support their growth ambitions.
“Our move to ONE Tech Hub is an important part of our growth plan. It’s great to be in the hive of digital and technology excellence – we’ve hired XX new people with plans for more and being in ONE Tech Hub is certainly a key factor in attracting the best technology talent and immersing them in a dynamic startup community.
The addition of TechScaler will increase the talent pipeline and strengthen the community which is great to expand our teams’ horizons – possibly to spinning out their own start-up!”
Gillian Docherty, Chair of CodeBase, the Edinburgh-based company delivering the Techscaler programme, said:
“I’m excited to see this network bring together people and partners across the Scottish tech ecosystem, developing the skills and attracting the investment required to start and scale a tech business."
