Aberdeen-based Intelligent Plant is a software business specialising in the performance monitoring of equipment including wind turbines, oil platforms and power stations.
Intelligent Plant spotted a gap in the market where there wasn’t a data sharing and collaboration portal for apps. They developed their Industrial App Store - a connected digital marketplace providing low-cost data apps to enable analysis and visualisation of real time data. Businesses can upload apps to sell, and purchase apps they need to maximise the use of their data.
Founder Steve Aitken joined the Opportunity North East Graduates into Business programme in 2022.
“Being part of the programme was hugely valuable to both Intelligent Plant and our graduate. As an SME we were able to become more attractive to a graduate by offering additional opportunities through the programme and as a business we saved time and resources as ONE provided training programmes and support to our graduate,” explained Steve.
“We wouldn’t have found our graduate, Paul Gowans if it wasn’t through the programme. Paul has been a huge asset and contributed to growth for Intelligent Plant, including our latest project with the University of Aberdeen to launch an AI project to support Scottish hydrogen production. Paul assisted with securing the funding and presented on behalf of Intelligent Plant for this project.”
Paul Gowans Engineer at Intelligent Plant and one of the 2022 Graduates into Business cohort commented, “Being part of the Graduates into Business programme opens the door to working with a wider range of organisations who may not typically take on graduates.
“The workshops were a great way to learn and develop new and existing skills. And most importantly, the networking aspect allowed me to make connections in the digital tech community and build a solid support network.”
Intelligent Plant plans to further expand their team from 13 members to 16 in the next few months with all additional members being graduates, as well as rolling out further projects in the pipeline.
Opportunity North East is currently leading and delivering a programme to support Digital Tech SME businesses to accelerate their growth by recruiting and developing recent graduates. The Graduates into Business programme enables businesses to offer graduates a 12-month cohort-based supported employment and skills development experience across general business skills and role-specific training.
