Opportunity North East (ONE) is launching the EnergyTech Bridge Programme delivered in partnership with Barclays Eagle Labs and CodeBase, which will support businesses with the move towards cleaner, greener energy.
The programme brings together a cohort of ambitious innovators; digital tech startups, small scaleups and established energy businesses focused on accelerating the transition to cleaner, greener energy through digital tech innovation.
EnergyTech has successfully ran for two years with 15 digital tech businesses from north east Scotland. The programme has been updated for 2024 to align more closely with the global shift to net zero and the opportunity that clean and green energy presents.
This decade is crucial for climate action, requiring radical change and disruptive digital innovation. Growth in this area has the potential to gain a competitive advantage in fast growing global market. In the north east, we have the opportunity to leverage decades of expertise in offshore energy production to position north east Scotland at the forefront of Scotland’s Just Transition to net zero.
Technology especially within the digital tech sector, is showing promising signs of driving this change, with a focus on green energy, primarily offshore wind, and climate tech as preferred routes to scale and new market opportunities.
Karen O’Hanlon, Digital Tech Director at ONE commented, “North east Scotland has one of the largest clusters of energy tech businesses in Europe. They increasingly provide tech products and services beyond the oil and gas market and respond to opportunities in emerging high-growth sectors such as clean tech, climate tech and renewables. This diversification is essential to the continued growth of the region’s innovative tech cluster, and its deep energy sector knowledge differentiates it from others in the UK.”
ONE is keen to hear from established energy businesses who have or are developing expertise in green and clean energy or actively seeking solutions to support the transition from fossil-based systems of energy production and consumption to renewable energy sources such as off-shore wind and hydrogen.
Luis Ibarra, CEO and Founder of eCERTO and EnergyTech SME Alumni commented, “What makes EnergyTech Bridge so special is that other programmes are focused on providing support to founders or helping create a company, [EnergyTech Bridge] is helping to create a strong relationship with your partners and your potential clients.”
Jim Lenton, Senior Vice President at Worley and EnergyTech Corporate Alumni, stated, “The type of startups on the programme exceeded our expectations. Bringing startups together with incumbents is not something we’ve been involved in before and getting access to them has built a strong interest to follow this through. I’m optimistic we’ll contract with a startup because of EnergyTech Bridge.”
ONE is hosting an information session at ONE Tech Hub to share information about the programme and outline how innovators and established businesses can benefit from it on 27th February at ONE Tech Hub, Schoolhill, Aberdeen.
