In 2016, the combined spending by day and overnight visitors in north east Scotland was £630 million. With improved facilities for cruise ships in Aberdeen and a new world-class exhibition and conference centre, the volume and value of visitors to the region will increase.
The region's tourism ambition, as outlined in the Destination Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire Tourism Strategy 2018-2023, is to grow visitor spend to £1 billion a year by 2023.
The sector priorities are to keep pace with the latest consumer trends and demands, invest in skills development and create a regional tourism network to develop the visitor economy and provide a sustainable contribution to the economy of north east Scotland.
Opportunity North East (ONE) and VisitAberdeenshire work with tourism businesses to turn the region's unique assets into experiences, connect businesses with customers, promote sustainable growth, invest in skills and leadership, and encourage the sector to collaborate to produce more significant impacts.
