OPPORTUNITY NORTH EAST – TOURISM
Opportunity North East (ONE) supports VisitAberdeenshire, the city and region’s destination management organisation, which plays an important role in transforming and diversifying our region’s economy.
In 2019, ONE is contributing £795,000 to maximise the impact of VisitAberdeenshire with co-funders Aberdeenshire Council and Aberdeen City Council. Together, we aim to grow visitor spend in Aberdeenshire to £1 billion per year by 2023.
There are significant natural and cultural assets in the region, from the coastline and national park to golf courses, castles, heritage, food, whisky and business tourism. These can all be promoted to secure a greater share of Scotland’s leisure tourism market, in tandem with the new £333 million investment in The Events Complex Aberdeen (TECA), replacing Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre investment, with 48,000 sqm of exhibition, conference and meeting space and a 12,500 capacity arena. There is also the exciting possibility of significant cruise ship visits with the completion of the South Harbour development which means Aberdeen will also be in the position to increase capacity for larger ships and join the premier league of UK cruise ports.
VisitAberdeenshire has its own board, an established governance structure and strong leadership team. ONE’s tourism priorities are delivered via VisitAberdeenshire and ONE is represented on VisitAberdeenshire’s board.
